THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Railways have agreed in principle to schedule stops for three trains at the Parassala Railway Station. Kanyakumari-Mumbai Express and Chennai Egmore - Thiruvananthapuram, Ananthapuri Express are the trains that will stop at the station. The decision was taken with a view to mitigate the woes of long distance travellers from Parassala. The news was announced by Shashi Tharoor MP at the Parassala Railway Station.He also inaugurated a foot over bridge and reservation system at the railway station. The new reservation system will enable residents in the Parassala area to book tickets to and from any railway station in the country, without going to Kulittura or Neyyatinkara. The advance reservation facility will be available from 9 to 11 in the morning. The new foot overbridge, which costs Rs 61 lakh, is a part of an initiative on the part of Railway authorities to develop the Parassala station.Speaking on the occasion, Shashi Tharoor complimented the Railway authorities for their initiative and promised that the new facilities were only the beginning of various development projects for the station, which would be carried out in a phased manner.A T George MLA, appealed to the Railways to utilise the vast Railway land at Parassala for the proposed Railway Medical College. T K Sarojini, president of Parassala grama panchayat and Rajiv Dutt Sharma, Divisional Railway Manager, Thiruvananthapuram Division were also present at the function. V Rajeevan, Additional Divisional Railway Manager proposed the vote of thanks.
