Randeep Hooda remains unfazed by negativity and completely indifferent to the noise on social media. Speaking at the India Today Mind Rocks 2024 Youth Summit, the Highway actor addressed the influence of boycott culture on movie releases, confidently stating that any form of publicity is beneficial in the entertainment industry.
Hooda emphasized that what truly matters is when people stop talking about you, not when you’re in the headlines for any reason. He added, “But that should not also be a case of just creating sensationalism. Boycott culture is a social media hoax. If you see a boycott for a film on social media, that doesn’t necessarily mean people are not going to watch it.”
He also pointed out that the real factor influencing a movie’s success is the audience’s connection to the trailer or their favorite actors. “It has nothing to do with this boycott culture. I don’t care about it at all. I have been canceled many times. I am here bro,” Hooda said confidently.
The actor, who debuted with Mira Nair’s Monsoon Wedding, has always sought out unconventional roles. At the event, he reflected on his preference for meaningful films, saying, “I have always wanted to not just do frothy films. In India and everywhere, we are looking at entertainment, where we are not required to apply our minds too much.”
Hooda’s filmography includes critically acclaimed works like Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, Sarbjit, Highway, Kick, and Sultan. His most recent work, Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, where he portrayed Indian political activist Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, was praised for his performance, and Hooda himself directed and co-produced the project.
Released on March 22, Swatantra Veer Savarkar starred Randeep Hooda, Ankita Lokhande, Amit Sial, Apinderdeep Singh and Mark Bennington among others. The film was based on Vinayak Damodar Savarkar and his contribution during the Indian Independence struggle. It earned over Rs 30 crore at the Indian box office.
News18 Showsha gave the film a three-star rating and wrote, “Randeep Hooda has shouldered the film with ease. He proves that his performances in films like Sarabjit and Highway were not just flukes. Randeep gets under the skin and bones of the freedom fighter. You are spellbound with the conviction of his performance.”
On the professional front, Randeep Hooda recently announced his involvement in Sunny Deol’s upcoming project.
