New Delhi: Delhi Police has arrested an associate of the prime accused in the Kavita Rani murder case in Central Delhi on Tuesday night.

A lecturer in the Chaudhary Charan Singh University in Meerut, Kavita Rani was murdered in late October.

Triloki Singh, an associate of main suspect Ravindra Pradhan, was arrested near Videocon Towers in Paharganj area and handed over to the Meerut Police on Wednesday morning, police said.

Singh is the headman of Dhanera Kirat village in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr district and his name is among those mentioned in the threat letters to Kavita Rani.

Singh is also wanted in two other cases in the state apart from the Kavita Rani murder case.

A few days ago, Pradhan admitted in television studio in Noida that he, along with his accomplice, strangulated Kavita on October 24 and disposed of the body in a canal in Sanauta in Bulandshahr.

He confessed that he killed her because she had been making demands for a bigger share of the money they had extorted from a former minister Meerajuddin Ahmed.

On Tuesday, Uttar Pradesh Minister of State for Food Processing and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) leader Babulal on Tuesday resigned from the Mulayam Singh Yadav Ministry following reports linking him to Kavita Rani murder.

Babulal handed over his resignation to RLD Chief Ajit Singh in New Delhi, who forwarded it to the Chief Minister.
