In the midst of promoting Jigra, a film he co-produced with Alia Bhatt, Karan Johar has caught attention with a cryptic social media post. Taking to Instagram, the filmmaker shared a post on his stories, originally from a popular account, Dude with sign. The image features a man standing while holding up a placard over his head that reads, “Now’s the time to get into a relationship.” Johar added his own touch by including a sticker of his avatar on the post. Though Johar has been quite popular for digging details out of industry stars’ relationships and acts as a cupid on his popular show Koffee With Karan, he tends to keep details about his own love life under wraps.
Without offering any further explanation, fans were left wondering what the message implied.
Earlier in July, Karan Johar opened up about his relationship status, admitting that he has been single for quite some time. Speaking with Faye D’Souza, he revealed that he has only been in “one and a half relationships” throughout his life. He shared that while he was once keen on finding companionship in his 40s, he no longer actively seeks a partner now that he’s in his 50s.
He went on to say, “I did feel the vacuum when I turned 40, but when I turned 50, I felt like I didn’t want it. I am not blocking it, but now I don’t see it happening actively. I have gone through agencies, blind date situations, and met people in the country, and out of the country, now if I find it well and good, I don’t feel the need for it at all.”
In the meantime, Karan Johar is stepping into new territory with plans to direct a major web series for Netflix, similar to Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s collaboration with the platform. Reports indicate that Karan will soon make his OTT directorial debut, much to the excitement of fans who have followed his work on iconic films such as Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, My Name Is Khan, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.
The filmmaker’s latest appearance was during the 24th International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA), held on 28 September, in Abu Dhabi. During the event, he was presented with a special award for his contribution to cinema. He completed 25 years of working in the Indian film industry last year.
