New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has retained as many as 40 portfolios to herself as she announced distribution of portfolios of her Cabinet in Lucknow on Thursday evening.

The new Chief Minister gave the charges of nine ministries to her close lieutinant and BSP General Secretary Naseemuddin Siddiqui and retained her top aide SC Mishra in her office.

Allocating the portfolios three days after being sworn in, Mayawati kept Home, Finance, Vigilance, Personnel and 24 other departments with herself, official sources said.

Mishra, the Brahmin face of the BSP and a key component of Mayawati's social engineering that reaped electoral success for the party, has been attached to the Chief Minister. He was sworn in as a Cabinet minister on Monday.
