BANGALORE: Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa said that the state government is contemplating sending committees of experts and officials to developed countries in order to study how small scale industries are making profit with less capital investment.Speaking at a function organised by Karnataka Small Scale Industries Association (KASSIA) here on Thursday, Yeddyurappa claimed that many foreign countries have evinced keen interest to invest in various sectors in Karnataka.
"Small and medium scale industries are the backbone of Indian economy as they provide equipments to larger industries by employing semiskilled youth. My government's focus and thrust will be on encouraging SMEs," Yeddyurappa added. Urging the Opposition parties to shed their confrontationist approach and instead support the government for carrying out developmental activities, the chief minister said: "The Opposition parties are free to point out the wrong policies of the government."
On acquisition of agricultural lands for industries, Yeddyurappa conceded that a small section of people would be affected when large projects in the overall interest of the state are launched, but at no point would they be left in the lurch. He said two highpowered teams, one led by himself and another led by Chief Secretary S V Ranganath are visiting various districts to review developmental activities weekly. "We have already visited eight districts. Once we tour the entire state, we will finetune our developmental agenda for more thrust," he explained. Minister for Large and Medium Industries Murugesh R Nirani said, "We have 356 various schemes for industries, 27 of which have been implemented; we will build an international exhibition centre in a 35acre plot under public private partnership (PPP) in Devanahalli costing between `250`300 crore. Soon, we will have a roundtable conference with SSIs, where we will discuss their problems."
