AIADMK sets ball rolling for LS polls
AIADMK chief and Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, addressing a meeting of the executive committee of the party on Monday, called upon party functionaries and leaders to act unitedly to ensure a landslide victory of the party in 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

Well ahead of time, the ruling AIADMK has intensified its preparations for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

AIADMK chief and Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, addressing a meeting of the executive committee of the party on Monday, called upon party functionaries and leaders to act unitedly to ensure a landslide victory of the party in the elections.

She is also understood to have formed a committee comprising senior ministers O Panneerselvam, R Viswanathan, K P Munusamy and R Vaithilingam to tour all constituencies to make arrangements for the party to face elections.

They are also likely to monitor the welfare schemes of the AIADMK government and report to the Chief Minister on whether the targeted recipients have benefited from them. The Chief Minister told members of the executive committee that the party functionaries should be ready to face the Lok Sabha elections at any time — even before the scheduled time.

Eight months ago, when addressing the party’s general council meeting on December 30, 2011, Jayalalithaa had said that the party would be part of the next government at the Centre that wil be formed after the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, and exhorted the party cadre to prepare for the LS elections right from that day.

“The time is fast approaching for the AIADMK to make great strides in national politics. The two leaves will blossom and flourish in places beyond Tamil Nadu”, Jayalalithaa had said.

“Now, it is time to strengthen ourselves further to become a force to determine who will be the next prime minister of the country. We (AIADMK) will be part of the Central government to be formed next,” Jayalalithaa said. The AIADMK chief had urged the party cadre should not be complacent thinking the Lok Sabha elections were two years away.
