SANGAREDDY: When Chief minister Nallari Kiran Kumar Reddy opened Pandora's box and announced his ambitious Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu (RYK) project, sun shone brighter for several unemployed youths in Andhra Pradesh on that day.
But, several months after the scheme's inception, it has apparently upset many unemployed youths desperately seeking employment. Though the government has promised to provide private and government jobs, RYK officials in Medak district are not filling up vacant government posts despite their availability.

Based on the state government's orders, the district administration had issued notifications to fill up the posts of Village Revenue Officer (VRO) and Village Revenue Assistant (VRA) on December 7. While there are 72 vacant VRO posts in the district, officials say only eight vacancies are available. Even when there are 350 vacant VRA posts, officials have issued notifications for only 252.

On the other hand, officials are trying to get most youths recruited in private sector. At least 80 per cent of empty posts are expected to be filled up. According to two unemployed youths, Surender and Shafi, they were happy about RYK's introduction in the beginning. "But now, we are not sure whether our jobs would be secure despite officials' promises," they rued. They allege that officials are not transparent about the vacant government posts available in the district.

The latter is being opposed by several unemployed youths as their job would not be secure.

In view of this, youths have appealed to the government to make their posts in private sector permanent based on their performance.
