Surveillance camera footage from the area in Pune where a ‘drunk’ Audi driver rammed a Swiggy delivery executive’s motorbike, killing him within minutes, shows how the speeding car threw the victim several feet into the air and fled the scene.
One of the CCTV footage clips from a nearby building captured the exact moments. The alleged drunk driver can be seen hitting a two-wheeler and injuring three people.
The driver does not stop at that and continues to speed up. As the victim Rauf Shaikh comes in front of the luxury car, it hits the two-wheeler and continues speeding to escape the scene.
The security guards from nearby buildings and other commuters can be seen rushing to help the injured man, who the car owner left behind to bleed to death. Though he was rushed to the nearest hospital, the doctors declared him dead.
According to Pune Police, the incident took place around 1 am in Pune’s Koregaon area.
The deceased was identified as Rauf Shaikh. The accused, identified as 34-year-old Ayush Tayal, was arrested, the police said.
Police said the suspect, 34-year-old Ayush Tayal, fled from the spot after the accident near Tadigutta in the city’s Mundhwa area. They checked the surveillance camera footage from the locality and tracked him down to his residence. They then arrested him from his residence in the Hadapsar area.
“The car driven by Tayal crashed into Shaikh’s bike. The accused fled the scene but was later detained after police used footage of CCTV cameras to identify the car and then track him down with its details,” said Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Pail.
Tayal is a senior executive at a firm in Ranjangaon MIDC and he has been sent for a medical examination to ascertain if he was intoxicated at the time of the accident, the official said.
