News briefs: CBSE introduces new elective course in Lucknow
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced a new elective subject, ‘Knowledge Traditions and Practices of India’, for Classes 11 and 12. The subject will help the students know more about India’s rich culture and heritage. The course combines various disciplines of study such as mathematics, chemistry, fine arts, agriculture, trade and commerce, astronomy, surgery, environment and life science that provide the students to a direct link to knowledge of Indian culture.

Lucknow: Condition of 5 students worsensduring hunger strike

The condition of five students, who were on a hunger strike, worsened as their protest entered its 10th day. The 2011 batch students of five Ayurveda colleges have been barred by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) from exams due to poor facilities at the college level.  Fifteen were on a sit-in protest, out of those five had to be administered glucose intravenously on Saturday as their conditioned worsened.

Barabanki: Tree where ‘gold flowers’ blossom

A tree in the Baroliya village of the district has been a centre of attraction. The tree supposedly produces ‘gold flowers’. The tree is also one of the oldest surviving trees known to Indian botanists. The tree surprisingly has neither fruits, nor any seeds. However, local people have attached mythological stories with the ‘gold flower tree”. The state government has appointed forest guard officials to protect the tree.

Aligarh: Smoking, tobacco chewing banned inside Great Value Mall

The management of Great Value Mall has decided to ban smoking and chewing of tobacco inside the mall. The mall authorities are also taking measures to check the implementation of the decision. The mall will be inaugurated on August 8 by the commissioner. However, the mall will be open for public from August 9.

Aligarh: Jagran Public School celebrates “Rain Mahotsav”

Like every year, Jagran Public School on Saturday celebrated “Rain Mahotsav”. The students presented a programme depicting the cultural background of different states. The director of the school Ritu Agarwal inaugurated the programme.

Varanasi: 2,212 appear in BHU medical PG entrance exam

The entrance exam for MD/MS (Ayurveda) of Benaras Hindu University was held on Sunday, August 4. The exam was to be held on June 26. About 2,212 candidates appeared in the examination. The results will be declared soon. There are 39 seats out of which 20 seats are reserved for those students who completed their graduation courses from BHU. The rest 19 seats are for general candidates.
