ANGUL: The problems of the National Aluminum Company (Nalco) seem to be mounting with each passing day. Unhappy over lack of promotional avenues, hike in pay among other things, executives of the Nalco have planned an agitation.Out of the 1,900 executives of the company, 1,100 are working in the Smelter and Power plants here. At a press conference, Satyananada Sahu and Bijay Kumar Parida - the president and general secretary respectively of the officers association here - said on Wednesday that all the executives of the company are up in arms against the management for its ‘anti-executive policies’.  “They are aggrieved over the management’s discrimination towards executives at a time when the non-executives are getting a  better deal with all perks,” said Sahu. He added that under such circumstances, non-executives are drawing more salary than the Nalco officers. Alleging that the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) of the company is irregular in its meetings, in violation of the norm of being organised once a year, they demanded making the DPC meeting a regular affair. “This year, there has been no DPC till date though rule mandates the meeting on July 1  every year,” Parida said.  They further accused the management of not creating executive posts even after it went for two expansions in the past. Stating that Nalco is the only PSU in India where 80 per cent officers get salary less than the workers who report to them, they asked the management to immediately remove the anomalies. They said the general body meeting of association which was held on Tuesday has authorised the executive body to adopt any means to get these demands fulfilled.
