Jayalalithaa orders counselling for prisoners

CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Thursday ordered the appointment of psychologists in nine prisons, including the six central prisons in Tamil Nadu, to offer counselling services to the inmates so that they can mingle with the mainstream society easily after their release.The posts would be created in the six central prisons in the State: Puzhal, Cuddalore, Coimbatore, Madurai, Tiruchirapalli and Palayamkottai, and in the three women jails in Puzhal, Vellore and Tiruchirapalli. This will entail an additional expenditure of Rs 45 lakh per annum to the government exchequer.
