Rather than relying on verbal communication, most people now prefer chats, smses and Facebook posts. The advantage is that it enables one to interact with a group of people simultaneously. However, though it pays to multitask, it does have its own share of pitfalls. A funny message meant for say G.One may land in say Ra.One’s inbox, putting Lucifer (the protagonist) in an embarrassing situation.Media student Subha, who loves to send text messages to her friends, found herself in one such embarrassing situation recently. “I was in a good mood that day and was texting a friend named Dharini with cute, girlie messages,” she recollects. “However, accidentally, one of the messages went to a friend named Dharan (Lesson 1: Always give a pet name to your friend. It helps avoid mistakes). He texted me back with a few hundred smilies, thinking I’d finally fallen for him. I immediately called him and cleared the misunderstanding (Lesson 2: Never let a misunderstanding multiply, unless the other person is the one you have an eye on). He said, ‘You’re one crack,’” Subha giggles. Another such incident occurred due to similar names. Pooja loves to post comments about her friends’ pictures on Facebook and tag them on. During one such adventurous streak, a slight error of judgment led to a costly misadventure. Instead of tagging Amrita, Pooja tagged Amar with the name Amrita. Men are particularly proud of  their masculinity and Amar was no different. Pooja had earned the wrath of Amar. (Lesson 3: Never have friends with similar names. If there’s no alternative, refer to them by their surnames. After all, My name is Khan, Bond,… sound better anytime.)Radhika, an 18-year-old student, had to face an even more serious situation. She almost lost a close friend after pressing the wrong tab!  Radhika, who loves to chat with three or four friends together, was trying to guess a male friend’s whereabouts the day before when unfortunately the message landed in a childhood buddy’s chat box. “‘Were you in a pub yesterday?’ I pinged him by mistake instead of the other male friend. The childhood friend, being insecure, got offended as he thought I  was interacting too much with the others and not with him,” she says. “We had a heated confrontation via chat, and I immediately went offline. The next day, we patched up,” she adds. (Lesson 4: Don’t bite more than you can chew. )Now, let’s move on to some really hilarious situations. Rajeshwari, a 21-year-old professional, had a huge crush on one of her friends. But she didn’t know where to start. Her phone came to her rescue. She texted, “Hey, how was the trip today?” when the poor chap had been at home the whole day. The person texted back, “Trip? What trip? I was at home.” “And, that broke the ice between us,” says Rajeshwari. “Since then, we have been such good friends, although I’ve moved on from my crush and have a steady boyfriend,” she adds. (Lesson 5: A little  mistake, planned or unplanned,  does help sometimes.) What do you think?

What's your reaction?
