New Delhi: Looks like the new OS by Microsoft already has a set of haters. CEO of Mozilla, Chris Beard, is the latest to join the list.
After consumers complained that they are not provided with enough choice while tweaking the default settings on personal data collection, Beard has penned an open letter to Microsoft boss Satya Nadella, airing his grievance over forceful choices that Microsoft wants users to have.
With Windows 10, Microsoft has made its new Edge browser as the default web browser for users. While this might appear a standard norm, it is the lengthy process of changing the defaults that concerns Beard.
In his letter, Beard notes the process, “now takes more than twice the number of mouse clicks, scrolling through content and some technical sophistication for people to reassert the choices they had previously made in earlier versions of Windows. It’s confusing, hard to navigate and easy to get lost.”
Microsoft told Mashable that during the upgrade, users have the choice to set defaults and they can easily choose the default browser of their choice. However, a video tutorial by Mozilla shows how difficult it is to tweak this little setting.
In the earlier versions, all you needed to do was click ‘Yes’ to set a preference. In the new version, you are directed to a settings page where you are required to manually designate a different browser as default.
