New Delhi: As announced by CEO Satya Nadella in November last year, Microsoft is all set to bring its Surface Pro 4 tablet to India on January 7. This is the first time that the Microsoft Surface tablet will be officially available in the Indian market.

The company has started sending out media invites for its event on Janaury 7 in New Delhi. The invte reads, "Start fresh on a brand new SURFACE! Microsoft India invites you to experience the world's most powerful computing device."

The new Surface Pro 4 tablet is a larger but thinner and lighter version of the Surface Pro 3. The tablet is priced in the US at $899, but there is no information yet on its pricing for the Indian market.

Launched nearly a year and a half after its predecessor, the Surface Pro 4 features a 12.3-inch screen. It runs on 6th-generation Intel Core processor and has 16GB of RAM and 1TBB storage.

Microsoft's Surface Pro 4 is said to ve 50 per cent faster than Apple's MacBook Air, said Panos Panay, the corporate vice president for Surface Computing at Microsoft.

The new tablet will come with Windows Hello, an automatic biometric sign-in option introduced lst year. The feature allows users to scan their face, iris or fingerprints to verify their identity and give them access to Windows phones, laptops and personal computers.

The Surface Pro 4 is the first Surface tablet to ship with Windows 10 already installed, though older models are able to get free upgrades.
