ChatGPT is being used extensively by people but concerns around AI and its privacy fail to go away with multiple incidents coming to light. The popular AI chatbot has been accused of leaking private conversations which is likely to have Sam Altman and Co. worried about its applications in the public.
The details of the leak have been mentioned through screenshots in this report, where you can see the usernames and passwords of employees working for pharmacy prescription drug websites. The employee noticed the conversations leaked by ChatGPT along with their name and even the store number where the person works. The details were leaked to another user named Whiteside who used ChatGPT for another query.
The person noticed additional conversations added to the query he made to the AI chatbot which does sound scary as people want to rely on this AI tech to get responses without worrying about their privacy. That’s not all, the leak offers unrelated conversations and there is no pattern to who sees what content while using the AI chatbot.
OpenAI was apprised about the incident and the company was quoted talking about an account takeover, which apparently was created in Sri Lanka. It pointed out the timing of the leaked chats surfacing are linked to the logins made in the region.
We’re not sure if the details provided by OpenAI are enough to ignore the calls of a data leak on ChatGPT but one can surely feel a lot more secure if OpenAI introduced stringent account privacy features like 2-factor authentication which would ensure lapses like these don’t occur in the future. ChatGPT is used by many people these days, for personal and work purposes, so having a secure channel to keep the chats private is the need of the hour.
