New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday complained to the Election Commission (EC) over the attack on its leader Somnath Bharti in Varanasi on Wednesday and demanded more election observers and security forces to be placed in the city.

In a blatant display of muscle power a group of people claiming to be Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters beat Bharti during the filming of a television show on a news channel.

The incident took place up at Assi Ghat in Varanasi. AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal had earlier in the day filed his nomination papers from Varanasi.

Bharti's car was also attacked and window panes were broken. His driver was also attacked.

After getting first aid, Bharti, a former Delhi law minister, went to Bhelupur police station and registered a complaint.
