The government has extended SBI Chairman Dinesh Khara’s tenure by 10 months till August 28, 2024, according to a Moneycontrol report citing two government sources.
“The tenure of SBI Chairman has been extended till August 28, 2024. The extension has been approved by the PMO,” the Moneycontrol report said quoting of of the sources.
Khara was appointed as SBI’s chairman on October 7, 2020, for three years. According to norms, the SBI chairman can hold the position till the age of 63.
“The government is likely to issue an order to this effect today,” the report said quoting the other source.
The central government is also considering a proposal to raise the age limit for SBI chairman by two years to 65 and considering extending the age limit of managing directors of other state-owned banks to 62 years from 60, according to a Reuters report.
