Afghanistan cricketers celebrated their historic win over Pakistan on Monday night by dancing to a popular Bollywood song ‘Lungi Dance’ from the movie Chennai Express.
A video of the Afghan players dancing inside their team bus while returning to their hotel as been shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
Since I can’t post my video of dancing, here is a fun one from our #Atalan. But rest assured, I danced with joy and will continue dancing for days to come, celebrating this sweet victory. Dance your hearts out, our heroes. You deserve all the happiness. Mashallah #AFGvPAK pic.twitter.com/xaXM5x7MYf— Wazhma Ayoubi (@WazhmaAyoubi) October 23, 2023
The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) also shared a clip of the revelry from the team’s dining room where they can be seen using the utensils as musical instruments while jumping and dancing to celebrate their eight-wicket win over Pakistan in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
This is the first time that Afghanistan, ranked 9th in ODIs, have beaten Pakistan who won the world cup in 1992 and recently were the top-ranked team in the format as well before being displaced by India.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam opted to bat first and they made a decent 282/7 in 50 overs. Babar top-scored with 74 while Abdullah Shafique made 58.
In reply, Afghanistan produced a dominating display with the bat with their openers, Ibrahim Zadran (87) and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (65) stitching a century stand.
They went on to chase down the target in 49 overs for the loss of just two wickets.
“This win tastes nice," Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shaidi said after the contest. “The way we chased was very professional. Looking forward for the other games. The way we chased today, we’ll do it again. The quality cricket that we have been playing from the last couple of years, the belief was there when we were playing the Asia Cup also. At the start of the tournament, I said that we want to make this tournament historic for our country people. First was England, today Pakistan, looking forward for the other games."
Afghanistan will have a break of six days now before they take on Sri Lanka on October 30 in Pune.
