The Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA). Five BITS Pilani students will be chosen for internships in Rajya Sabha as a result of this agreement. As part of this collaboration, BITS Pilani students will be given the chance to attend the Rajya Sabha as guests on a recurring basis.
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar announced the Memorandum of Understanding while visiting the institute with Union Minister for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal.
The vice president stressed the critical role BITS Pilani plays in influencing the economy while asserting that students are the ultimate stakeholders in democracy. “One should never fear failure and always be innovative. Students are the ultimate stakeholders of democracy,” Vice President Dhankar added.
In order to further solidify the relationships between academics and government, both the Vice-President and Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal had productive meetings with the BITS Pilani community.
Prof V Ramgopal Rao, Vice Chancellor of BITS Pilani, said,”We at BITS Pilani are proud to share the Vice-President’s vision and remain committed to nurturing future leaders who will continue to drive progress and development in India.”
Meanwhile, BITS Pilani recently launched the PhD-DRIVE programme, which aims to establish a startup based on deep scientific and technology research. PhD-DRIVE is an acronym that stands for Deep-tech Research, Innovation, Value generation, and Entrepreneurship. Students who have a strong background in science and technology and a demonstrated desire to found a company are eligible for the PhD-DRIVE programme at the Institute.
Shortlisted students will be paid a stipend and will receive a prototype grant during the programme.
Suresh Kabra, a BITS Pilani alumnus, has offered to sponsor three female Ph.D. scholars with innovative ideas in the biological sciences field, coupled with seed funding. Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao also intends to capitalise on this programme to foster 100 start-ups by 2030.
