The fans of Suits, a legal drama that ran for nine seasons from 2011-2019, are gearing up for the release of its upcoming spin-off Suits: L.A. The spin-off was announced earlier in February by NBC. The pilot episode of the show will be shot in Vancouver, Canada in late March 2024. The spin-off series will centre around Ted Black, a former federal prosecutor from New York who gets in charge of a struggling private firm. While the show is still in its early stages, the speculations about the upcoming cast and the possible return of original cast members are rife. Abigail Spencer, who played Scottie in the original series, recently spoke to The A.V. Club about the possibility of the original cast making an appearance in the spin-off.
When asked if she would consider replaying her role in Suits: L.A, Spencer exclaimed “Yes!”. She spoke about working on the original series and recalled, “Every season when I was available they just kept asking me back.” She added that though it is not clear if the cast from the original series will be needed to reprise their roles or make a cameo, but if asked no one from the original cast would say no to the offer. Spenser confidently said, “Anyone in the Suits universe could probably come back through.”
During the interview, Spencer also talked about Suits’ recent streaming resurgence. In June 2023, Netflix added eight out of nine seasons of Suits on its platform. Interestingly, despite being an old show, by the end of 2023, Suits become the most streamed show of the year.
Talking about Suits breaking streaming records, Spencer said, “To have this resurgence three years after we finished shooting is wild. I feel like there should be some sort of, all the puns intended, ‘case study’ about the show.”
Earlier, on January 7, four main cast members of the Suits, Patrick Adams, Gabriel Macht, Gine Torres, and Sarah Rafferty, reunited at the 2024 Golden Globes Awards. They presented the award for best television series (drama) to Succession.
During the pre-show interview at the 2024 Golden Globes, Patrick J. Adams, who played Mike Ross in Suits, expressed his eagerness to join the spin-off and said, “If I got the phone call, I’m ready to suit up again. I love the show, I love the character and I loved working with all these people.”
