After months of speculations, it has been confirmed that the Barbie actor will perform live at the Academy Awards.

Putting an end to months of speculation, it is now confirmed that Ryan Gosling will officially perform ‘I’m Just Ken’ at the 96th Academy Awards this year. According to a Daily Mail report, the actors will sing the Oscar-nominated song during the annual ceremony, scheduled to take place on 10 March 2024. However, both the actor and the Academy are yet to comment on the development. Notably, ever since Gosling and the song had picked up nominations, a big question continued making the rounds about whether he would agree to show his singing skills on the Oscar stage.

Earlier this month, Gosling, however, expressed his wish to perform at the Oscars. “It might be too much of a risk to have me do it. I don’t know how that would work. But I’m open to it,” the actor told Variety. On the other hand, Mark Ronson, who wrote the song with Andrew Byatt, also said that it was a dream for Gosling to be able to perform at the Academy Awards.

On being asked whether he would take in another singer if Gosling does not perform ‘I’m Just Ken’ live, Ronson added, “No. I think if Ryan doesn’t do it, then we’re not doing it.”

It is pertinent to note that I’m Just Ken is one of the most popular tracks from the 2023 film. So far, it has won the Best Song Award at the Critics Choice Awards and was also nominated for Best Song Written for Visual Media at the Grammys. Presently, I’m Just Ken along with What Was I Made For? by Billie Eilish and Finneas are the two Barbie tracks that are nominated for Best Original Song at the Oscars.

Besides Best Original Song, Barbie has made it to seven more nomination categories, including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Adapted Screenplay (Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach), Costume Design, and Production Design, among others.

Barbie was among the biggest hits last year. It went on to earn around $1 billion at the global box office, giving direct competition to Cillian Murphy’s Oppenheimer. The film revolves around Margot Robbie’s stereotypical Barbie, who suffers from an existential crisis and goes to explore the ‘real world’ with Ryan Gosling’s Ken.
