Thane and Mumbai woke up to heavy rainfall on Saturday morning. While office-goers may have to face issues, others may breathe a sigh of relief as most workplaces would be shut due to weekend.
The India Meteorological Department had issued ‘orange’ alert (heavy to very heavy rain) for Thane and Palghar for Saturday, September 17. A ‘yellow’ alert has been issued for Mumbai till September 18, indicating heavy rain at isolated places.
From Sunday, September 18, Thane and Palghar have been placed under ‘yellow’ alert. The IMD has said that the warnings will be upgraded if required.
The intensity of rains had reduced since July-end and the megapolis was not getting much rains except drizzling. While the rain may be a respite for many, others could be praying for clear weather as most Maharashtra residents are gearing up to welcome Lord Ganesha at their homes on Monday.
One of the major attractions of Ganesh Chaturthi is bringing Lord Ganesha’s idol home and then immersing it in a water body at the end of the 10-day festival.
Depending on traditions being followed in families, people do the Visarjan (immersion) on one and a half-day, three, five, seven, or eleven days also.

When Are Lord Ganesha Idols Brought Home?
Abhijit Muhurta is considered the most auspicious time to get Ganpati home. This year it falls on September 18, a day before festivities begin.
Ravi Yog, on September 19 (Tuesday), is when Lord Ganesha is welcomed at home with puja. The time this year is in the afternoon.
On September 18, Abhijit Muhurta is from 11:51 pm to 12:40 pm. On the other hand, from 12:08 am to 6:08 am is the time for Ravi Yog on Tuesday, September 19, 2023. You can invite Lord Ganpati to your house during the auspicious Choghadiya Muhurat, in addition to the Abhijit Muhurat.
