Saif Ali Khan FINALLY Breaks Silence On Adipurush Debacle, Says 'I’m Not Star Enough To...'
Released on June 16, 2023, Adipurush faced immense backlash from the audience after its release.

Almost nine months after Adipurush hit theatres, Saif Ali Khan has finally opened up about the backlash the film faced. In a recent interview, Saif addressed Adipurush’s failure and argued that he does not see himself as a star who can pull off all types of roles. Saif played the role of Ravana in Adipurush, which was based on the Hindu mythological epic Ramayana.

“I’m not star enough to pull off anything,” Saif told Film Companion and then added, “I’ve never actually thought of myself as a star, and I don’t really want to also. I like being a star, but I don’t want to be delusional. My parents are big stars, but very realistic, very normal. There’s so much more in life to be real about, my focus has always been on that… The idea is not to be scared of failing. People say, ‘That was a brave choice…’ You talk about Adipurush, for example. People talk about risks, but if you fall on your face, it’s not a risk really. You have to have a few of those also, and it’s a part of the approach. You have to shrug it off, feel bad, and say, ‘Nice try, but bad luck, let’s go to the next one’.

Released on June 16, 2023, Adipurush was directed by Om Raut and starred Prabhas and Kriti Sanon as Lord Ram and Sita respectively. However, the film left many disappointed and faced immense backlash from the audience for allegedly distorting the epic. While some people expressed disappointment with the film’s dialogues and portrayal of Ravana and Lord Hanuman, others argued that the VFX of the movie were too bad. A plea was also filed in the Supreme Court seeking revocation of CBFC certification of the Om Raut directorial. However, it was rejected by the top court.

Later, the film’s writer Manoj Muntashir also admitted that Adipurush was ‘wrong’. He was speaking to The Lallantop in November 2023 when he explained that even though the intention behind the film was good, it failed to connect with the audience. “Adipurush is a film which was made with good intentions, but it was wrong, and by accepting this, I will not become small,” Muntashir said.
