Hyderabad: The Telangana crisis threatens to boil over again with thousand of students and Telangana Joint Action Committee workers taking out a massive rally on Saturday in Hyderabad demanding the creation of a new state by bifurcating Andhra Pradesh.
Police have blocked the massive rally from marching to the state Assembly after threats from Osmania University students that they would lay siege to the building.
Police have also put up 65 barricades outside the Assembly, turning it into a virtual fortress.
"All the bona fide residents of the hostels have nothing to worry. Police officers have talked to the principals and wardens concerned. We have requested them not to let outsiders and suspicious elements to come and stay. We checked on our own too. We have certain information that certain organisations have been split into batches; we are trying to track them. In some areas they would try to hold demonstrations. Police is well equipped to handle the situation. Action will be taken against the trouble makers. Our arrangements are based on the inputs we have. We are sorry to the public for the inconvenience," said Hyderabad Police Commissioner AK Khan.
So far no protestors have been taken into preventive custody.
The students and Telangana JAC are protesting the terms of reference of the Justice Srikrishna committee that is looking after the demand of a separate state of Telangana.
A large number of security personnel have been deployed around the Assembly since the state Budget is to be presented on Saturday. Around 20,000 policemen have been deployed across the city.
More than 20,000 security personnel have been deployed across the city, trying to quell the protests.
