DYFI state secretary T V Rajesh MLA, the 39th accused in the Shukkoor murder case, on Thursday approached the Kerala High Court seeking anticipatory bail in the case.

Rajesh, charged under the IPC Section 118 (Concealing design to commit offence punishable with death or imprisonment for life) contended that he had no role in the murder and was not part of any conspiracy. Rajesh submitted that he has been falsely implicated as accused in a case registered in the Kannapuram police station on the dictates of the Muslim League.  Justice N K Balakrishan sought the view of the state and posted the case to August 9.

According to the petitioner he had appeared before the SIT probing the case and it had questioned him for three hours. So the arrest of the petitioner is not at all required. Since he is an MLA, there is no need for a suspicion that he may abscond, the petition said.

On February 20, Rajesh and CPM Kannur district secretary P Jayarajan were admitted to the Taliparamba Co-operative Hospital, after their car was attacked by a group of Muslim League workers at Ariyil in Pattuvam.

The allegation is that the 30th accused in the case made a phone call from the hospital room to the accused P P Sureshan and A V Babu asking them to take necessary action against the Muslim League workers.

Though the petitioner and Jayarajan heard the conversation they did not take any action to prevent the crime.
