VISAKHAPATNAM: With an eye on the Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha seat, Rajya Sabha member T Subbarami Reddy has started populist programmes and PR stints besides lobbying hard at 10 Janapath.
Reddy has asked his followers and party machinery here to prepare the ground work for a massive vistory in the coming polls. According to sources, some key Congress leaders who wish to make their mark in the 2014 assembly elections met TSR and discussed the possibilities of getting a party ticket. MLAs Ganta Srinivasa Rao, Dronamraju Srinivasa Rao, Malla Vijaya Prasad, Tynala Vijaya Kumar and former MLA Tippala Gurumurthy Reddy are some leaders in the TSR's group in the race for bagging a ticket. Reddy, who wants to contest from the Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha constituency, represented Visakhapatnam three times earlier. During the 2004 and 2009 general elections, the Congress ticket for the constituency was bagged by former chief minister Nedurumalli Janardhan Reddy and D Purandeswari respectively. Purandeswari, currently a Union minister, is not keen to contest again from Visakhapatnam, said sources.
