New Delhi: No fancy cakes, glittering pandals and thousands of ladoos - UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, who turns 59 on December 9 has decided to celebrate her birthday far from the maddening crowd of over-enthusiastic party workers.
Congress spokesperson, Ambika Soni, says, "Sonia Gandhi just didn't feel it was right to celebrate since this year has been marked with tragedies like earthquakes, floods and cyclones. Instead she is in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), visiting the people who have been affected by the earthquake."
Sonia Gandhi, who is already in J&K, will visit Uri and other areas that were hit by the earthquake on October 8 and will spend the day with the quake victims. She will visit the hospital at Karnah village in Poonch and distribute gifts to quake victims.
Although she has decided to spend the day in J&K, there is no dampening the spirits of party workers. They have already started crowding the All India Congress Committee headquarters.
Congress workers say they will leave no stone unturned in celebrating their madam's birthday in true style ? with or without her.
