Set up private universities: Governor

Speaking at the annual convocation at Alliance University in Bangalore on Saturday, Governor H R Bhardwaj said more private universities should come up in the education sector in the city. 

He said, “We should encourage private universities to hold distinct positions amongst other universities in the world and strive for excellence.” Bhardwaj suggested the university authorities to bring in modern equipment to endorse the student and faculty exchange programme between world class universities. He said, “Karnataka continues to be the best destination for investment. More than 150 multi-national companies have their research centres in the state.”

Chief Minister S Jagadish Shettar assured that the state government will ensure complete support for education including setting up private universities.

“The government has approved six universities and has set aside about `15,071 crore for education during the current financial year,” he said.

Chief Minister advocated that private universities should partner with best world-class universities for faculty and studentexchange programme. “Such steps will transform the students to global citizens,” he said.
