KOCHI: State under-21 football team member Hari Damodar, who is recovering from serious leg injuries following an accident, received on Sunday an amount of Rs 2 lakh from the state government on Sunday.Sports Minister KB Ganesh Kumar and Dominic Presentation MLA handed over a cheque each for Rs 1 lakh on behalf of the Kerala State Sports Council and from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, respectively.A student of Payannur College and a goalkeeper of state under-21 team, Hari met with an accident when he was returning from an inter-collegiate tournament held in Tiruvalla in January.Having been bedridden at the Specialist’s Hospital here for the past 72 days, Hari said the doctors have asked him to attempt standing on his right leg, which has been held together by a steel rod after surgery. A considerable amount of tissue from the left leg had to be grafted on the right leg to compensate for the damage.Expressing happiness on the gesture from the government, his father Damodar said that their only worry now is to see if he would be able to get back to the football field again.“The doctors have said that the flesh would regenerate on the affected part over a period of time but it is difficult to say exactly how long he will be under treatment,” he said.MLA Hibi Eden, Kerala Football Association president K M I Mather and secretary P Anil Kumar, KSSC president Padmini Selvan and secretary Abdul Razak accompanied the minister.
