Now, Swamy guns for eco affairs secy
Continuing his Twitter onslaught on officers working closely with finance minister Arun Jaitley -who is being seen by many as his real target -Subramanian Swamy on Thursday alleged that economic affairs secretary Shaktikanta Das was involved in a property case linked to Congress' P Chidambaram.
In a sharp response, Jaitley said it was “an unfair and false attack on a disciplined civil servant“. On Wednesday , he had said it was wrong to attack officers who couldn't defend themselves in public.

Girri submitted letter on hotel, says Jung
A political face-off over the murder of a civic body official intensified on Thursday with the AAP demanding the arrest of Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung who “forwarded” a letter related to The Connaught Hotel submitted by BJP parliamentarian Maheish Girri.
Girri, however, stuck to his position that he had “neither written nor forwarded, nor submitted” any letter to the L-G’s office on the issue.

CNG retrofits for scooters launched
Scooter owners in the national Capital will now be able to convert their petrol and diesel run vehicles to CNG.
Central government’s ministry of petroleum and natural gas with Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) and GAIL (India) Ltd launched a pilot project by installing CNG retrofit in 10 scooters on Thursday. The first batch of scooters was launched at the CNG filling station at CGO Complex.

Bihar teen raped, then brutalised on road after 4 days & left for dead
A youth belonging to a family of land owners allegedly raped the 13year-old daughter of a dailywage labourer in Bihar's East Champaran district and returned four days later to wound her grievously by inserting a stick into her genitals. Shockingly , the accused, in his late 20s, stormed the girl's hut with his relatives, including his father, before dragging her out and brutalising her in front of her parents and neighbours on the road. She was then left for dead in front of her hut.

Gurudas Kamat returns to Congress after Sonia meet
A fortnight after he resigned as AICC general secretary, Gurudas Kamat on Thursday took back his resignation, ostensibly after assurances from the high command that he would have a say in party affairs in Mumbai.
In a statement, Kamat said that during the last fortnight several senior party leaders tried to convince him to rethink his decision.

IIT prof gets 25th GD Birla Award for scientific research
The 25th GD Birla Award for Scientific Research for the year 2015 has been given to IIT-Kanpur professor Sanjay Mittal.
The award, which carries a reward of ` 2.5 lakh, is given to eminent Indian scientists below the age of 50 years for their original and outstanding contributions to any branch of science or technology.
Mittal’s work focuses on Bluff Body Flows (flows past blunt bodies associated with large unsteady separation and leading to large fluid forces). Mittal is working with the department of Aerospace Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.

On BCCI’s table: IPL in US, three weeks, eight teams
THE BCCI is planning to hold a three-week mini-IPL in the US involving all the eight teams, a member of the Twenty20 league’s governing council told The Indian Express.
“Space can be created on the cricket calendar because the T20 Champions League has been scrapped. We are proposing that all eight teams participate in the mini-IPL. The venue has not been finalised but the US is one of the options,” said the official, on condition of anonymity.

CONTROVERSIAL BJP leader Sangeet Som Thursday demanded a ban on the screening of the Muzaffarnagar riot-themed film Shorgul in Uttar Pradesh. The BJP MLA from Sardhana in Meerut said his supporters are opposing the film’s release because its contents could disturb social harmony and create communal tension.
