A video showcasing the Regent International, the world’s largest residential building, has taken the Internet by storm. Situated in Qianjiang Century City, Hangzhou, China, this impressive structure accommodates over 20,000 residents and covers an expansive area of 1.47 million square meters. Originally intendedas a luxury hotel, the building has been transformed into a towering residential complex standing 675 feet tall with 39 floors. Since its release, the video has garnered thousands of views and sparked a flurry of comments.

The video highlights that Regent International is more than just a residential building; it functions as a “self-contained community.” It offers all essential amenities for daily life to its thousands of residents, including food courts, grocery stores, barbershops, nail salons and internet cafes. Inaugurated in 2013, the building has the capacity to house up to 30,000 residents.

The video mentions that the inhabitants of the building include a diverse population from students to budding entrepreneurs. As per the Chinese news agency Sina, the rent of the apartments in the building ranges from 1,500 yuan (Approx Rs 17,000) for a small room that does not have a window to 4,000 yuan (Approx Rs 48,000) and above, for large houses with balconies.

Several social media users have reacted to the video. A user suggested a similar plan for Mumbai, “Dharavi mein aisa hi kuch bana do so that huge land can be used for SEZ without the need to relocate too many residents. (Make a similar plan for Dharavi so that the land can be used as a special economic zone without having to relocate too many people.)”

Another user said, “20,000 people in a single building is amazing.”

Meanwhile, a third user asked, “How do they manage deliveries in such a huge building? Must be a logistical challenge!”
