CHENNAI: What could possibly be the link between back pain and acne? Simple. It's called a Lymphatic Drainage Massage. Briefly put, this therapy stimulates the smooth flow of fluid in the lymph nodes distributed through the body. And Chennai-based Esthetician Sumi Devanesan, an expert with in the therapy, is all ready to ply her trade. She says, "Your lymph nodes often get clogged. Unblocking them will do wonders." The therapy is always carried out in an upward movement and filters out toxins in a gentle rhythmic massage. Trained at Oakville's Sheridian College in Canada, Sumi elaborates that a lot of her clients who have had skin conditions such as acne, psoriasis and puffy eyes have experienced relief after just one session. "It is especially useful for patients with breast cancer who have undergone chemotherapy," Sumi adds. Shortly after a massage, toxins are flushed out through the urine. "Sometimes, I have people stop me in the middle of session, because they say just have to use the restroom, and cannot wait," she says in a lighter vein. "I never do this therapy for patients with thrombosis or heart problems." Also, when working with cancer patients, it is always conducted after a doctor is consulted and passed the therapy with a green signal.Sumi Devanesen will be demonstrating lymphatic drainage massage therapy at 'The Second Comming' exhibition at Ambujams Lounge, Royapettah on January 8 and 9.
