HYDERABAD: A group of environmentalists has launched a campaign "Save the Love Lake of the World" to put it firmly on the world tourism map. On the eve of World Tourism Day on Monday, the group announced that it would appeal to the government and UN World Tourism Organisation to popularise Hussainsagar as a tourist destination. Ravindrajith, secretary of the campaign,  said, "The lake epitomises love across cultures and religious beliefs and links cultures by binding the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.'Ravindrajith, a vaastu consultant and numerologist, said when viewed via Google Earth, it looks like a heart-shaped lake. Besides, the various attributes of the man-made lake point to its significance as a love lake, he claimed."According to Hindu mythology, presence of parrots at the lake hints at the god of desire. Moreover, the lake was built on a tributary of Musi which witnessed the epic romance of Sultan Muhammad Quli Qutub Shah and Bhagmati. The prevalence of numeral 'six' in different aspects of the lake, including its geographical position, has some significance. Adam and Eve were created on the sixth day of creation," Ravindrajith argued. The organization will officially present its cause to the chief minister on Tuesday at Harihara Kala Bhavan and has approached tourism secretary Jayesh Ranjan. The campaign is being supported as a move to cleanse the lake and check environmental degradation by a voluntary organization, Jeeva Cares. An attempt to meet world tourism standards will require massive clean up operations at the lake.
