THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A day after a ceasefire was declared in the Congress by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala, the focus has now shifted to Neyyattinkara. The CPM-led LDF kicked off its vehicle campaign for the bypoll on Thursday in the constituency. The LDF camp claimed that the CPM candidate will win by a thumping margin against the ‘traitor’ R Selvaraj who resigned from the CPM to join hands with the UDF.M Vijayakumar, CPM state committee member, CPM leader V Sivankutty were among others who took part in the vehicle campaign of F Lawrence, the party candidate. Speaking on the occasion, Vijayakumar said here that the KPCC chief and the Chief Minister had gone to Delhi to persuade the party high command to delay the Neyyatinkara bypoll.“They clearly know that if the election is held as scheduled then the UDF will be suffer a humiliating defeat. Chandy and Ramesh went to Delhi to settle the UDF dispute as well as to plead for delaying the by-poll,’’ he said.Countering Vijayakumar, KPCC chief Ramesh Chennithala said that the Congress and the UDF were ready to face the bypolls in Neyyattinkara. "The allegation of the CPM that the Congress is trying to postpone the poll is just a ploy. There is no situation that warrants a postponement of the election and we are sure of a victory in Neyyattinkara. The same story was cooked up by the LDF before the Piravam by-poll, but the UDF won the seat with a good majority,’’ said Chennithala.Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan said here that the bypoll in Neyyattinkara will be a referendum on the performance of the ruling UDF Government in the state.Talking to reporters here, he said that common people suffering from the anti-people policies of the UDF Government, would cast their votes against the government. “The anti-people policies of the UPA government and the Congress-led UDF government in the state had resulted in the rising prices of essential commodities. People will cast their vote against those pursuing anti-people policies,’’ he added.Meanwhile, in a statement issued here, Akhilendia Nadar Association said that both LDF and UDF were cheating people and that the Nadar community was being sidelined by both the fronts.
