Watch: Jannik Sinner Lands on His Wrist, Recovers And Wins Stunning Rally Against Jack Draper in US Open Semifinal
The moment came in the second set when Jannik Sinner twisted his left wrist, using it to cushion his fall around the baseline.

World number 1 Jannik Sinner beat Jack Draper 7-5, 7-6 (3), 6-2 to reach the final of the men’s singles event of US Open 2024. With that, Sinner created history, becoming the first Italian man to achieve the feat. In what was a spirited display in a hard-fought fixture at the Arthur Ashe Stadium, the Italian came on top.

However, during the semifinal clash, the 23-year-old also survived an injury scare.

The moment came in the second set when Sinner twisted his left wrist, using it to cushion his fall around the baseline. The top seed showed hardly any sign of discomfort and clinched the point in what was a thrilling rally against Draper.

The arena erupted with applause as Sinner looked at his wrist, held it and then moved on without any fuss.

In the US Open 2024 final, Sinner will be up against Taylor Fritz and aim to improve his clinical 5-0 record in tour-level title matches so far this year.

Sinner and Fritz are currently tied at 1-1 in career head-to-head meetings.

“Jack and I know each other very well, we are great friends off the court. It was a very physical match. He’s so tough to beat so I’m excited to be in the final,” Sinner said after his win.

“In the final, it will be a very tough challenge. I’m happy to be in that position because if you are in the final on a Sunday it means you are doing an amazing job,” he added.

Draper wasn’t at ease against Sinner and the Briton even vomited three times during the second set. He committed ten double faults that played a big role in denying him a chance to reach a Grand Slam final for the first time.

Meanwhile, Taylor Fritz beat Frances Tiafoe 4-6, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 in an all-American US Open semi-final. Fritz emerged as the first American man since 2009 to reach the final of a Grand Slam. Fritz, the current world number 12, fought back on two occasions to beat Tiafoe.
