Members of the Laxmipeta Dalit Struggle Solidarity Committee (LDSSC) have announced that they will organise a four-day solidarity march from Laxmipeta to Srikakulam from October 13 to 16 demanding that the state government set up a special court at Laxmipeta immediately to try the killers of five Dalits on June 12.
They have demanded completion of the trial in three months without fail, and criticised issuance of GO No 103 for setting up a special sessions court at Srikakulam instead of at Laxmipeta where the massacre took place.
Speaking at a press conference here on Monday, after releasing a poster on the rally, balladeer and activist Gadar said the four-day rally would be led by LDSSC’s convener Bojja Tharakam and have the participation of many members of NGOs and people’s organisations. There will be a public meeting at Srikakulam on October 16.
Gadar accused the state government of indifference to the case of killings because it feared a threat to the government.
He also accused the government of shielding the culprits who belong to upper castes. He demanded distribution of 250 acres of land among the landless Dalits at Laxmipeta and a CBI inquiry into the killings. “PCC president Botcha Satyanarayana and his relatives should be arrested since they were behind the attack on Dalits,” he said.
