INS Mhadei, crewed by women officers of the Indian Navy, completed its maiden open ocean voyage on Tuesday.
The vessel sailed for Mauritius with an all-women crew from its home port of Goa on May 24. It was flagged off by by INS Mandovi's R Admiral KK Pandey. The entire trip was managed by women officers.
The boat was skippered by Lt Cdr Vartika Joshi. The crew braved strong winds of strength up to 35 kts and a sea state of 5 (rough weather). A sea state is characterised by statistics, including the wave height, period, and power spectrum.
The crew are currently training to undertake a circumnavigation of the globe in 2017. The voyage is seen as a major breakthrough ahead of that trip.
The crew will be stationed in Mauritius for 10 days and will call on the President of Mauritius.The return journey would start on June 24.
