Islamabad: A lawyer representing Pakistani American businessman Mansoor Ijaz Friday submitted his BlackBerry personal identification number to the commission probing the memo scandal.
The commission had sought phone records related to the memo controversy from the Research in Motion - the Canada-based service provider of BlackBerry Messenger.
Ijaz and former ambassador to the US Husain Haqqani had allegedly used the service to exchange messages.
Appearing for Ijaz, senior advocate Akram Sheikh has informed the commission that his client on instruction offered to waive his privacy rights with regard to the two pin numbers on which he communicated with Haqqani.
He also prayed that commission may ask Haqqani to also waive his privacy rights of his BlackBerry pin numbers that will help expedite the investigation, Geo TV reports.
Ijaz claims to have delivered a memo to the then US military chief Gen. Mike Mullen in May last year at the behest of Haqqani and the government to avert a likely military coup, kicking in a scandal that generated much heat in Pakistan.
The commission has summoned President Asif Ali Zardari, Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani, Director General Inter-Services Intelligence Ahmed Shuja Pasha and Husain Haqqani, among others, in its next hearing Jan 9.
The commission held its first meeting at the Islamabad High Court building Jan 2.
Balochistan High Court Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa heads the three-member judicial commission.
