Government restricts speed of Omni buses

ERODE: After seeing two major accidents involving Omni buses in Vellore and Erode districts last year, the government has restricted the speed of such vehicles.“The government had ordered fixing of speed governors in such buses, restricting the speed to 90 kmph before December 22, 2010. Now, all vehicles have such kits,” Gobi RTO KP Jayakumar told Express. The speed for other mofussil buses is 65 kmph only. “The 90 kmph speed limit was fixed as per the HC order so that the transport department could not further reduce the speed,” he said.
