Government failed to convince SC: BJP

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP state president V Muralidharan said that the since the UDF Government failed to convince the Supreme Court on the state’s position about the Mullaperiyar dam issue, it has lost the moral right to continue in office.The government’s stand in High Court that reducing water-level of the dam has nothing to do with its safety, weakened Kerala’s arguments in the Supreme Court, he said in a press conference here on Tuesday."It was because of the weak stand of the government that Supreme Court refused its plea to reduce the water level,’’ he said. The government’s stand is against the interests of the state. Kerala’s counsel in the Supreme Court Harish Salve did not appear in court at a crucial time which itself showed the State Government’s  ineptness in handling such a grave issue, he said."Kerala’s stand in the High Court will also weaken the arguments of Kerala ministers who will meet the empowered committee,’’ Muralidharan said.
