Fresh Jat Quota Stir Restarts in Haryana; Traders Appeal for Peaceful Protest
All India Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti decided to go ahead with the protest on Sunday to press their quota demand.

Chandigarh: Security arrangements in Haryana have been tightened after Jat leaders called for a fresh agitation on Sunday to press for their demand seeking reservation in jobs government organisations.

The Manohar Lal Khattar government is not taking any chances and has asked multiple security forces to ensure law and order situation in the state.

Haryana Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Ram Niwas said, "Apart from the state police, 4,800 paramilitary jawans have been deployed in all the sensitive areas and the administration is on high alert to prevent any untoward incident."

The Centre is likely to send additional forces of 15 companies in Haryana as a back up. Unlike the previous agitation in February, this time the state government has restricted the protesters to hold dharnas in a specific place (fixed by the government) in all the districts.

Special security measures have been taken to guard the Western Yamuna Canal in Sonipat district, railway stations, railway tracks and highways. Internet and bulk SMS services have been blocked in many areas as this could be used to spread misinformation. The restriction will remain in force until further notice from the state government.

In February, the agitators had blocked the water supply to the national capital by damaging the Carrier-Lined Channel (CLC) of Munak Canal and also indulged in large scale violence paralysing the state for several days.

Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPc have already been imposed in seven sensitive districts of Haryana. In some of the high sensitive zones, paramilitary forces were asked to conduct flag marches.

Meanwhile, the business community which faced massive financial loss during the first phase of quota stir appealed for peaceful protest.

"We appeal to Jat leaders that they should keep their agitation peaceful and there should not be any kind of disorder so that nobody should face any loss," Haryana Pradesh Beopar Mandal, President, Bajrang Dass Garg said.
