Mau (UP): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party President Mulayam Singh Yadav on Tuesday accused Congress of implicating former External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh in the Iraqi Oil-for-Food scam to 'save its own skin'.
Congress party has falsely implicated Natwar Singh in the scam to save its own skin, he alleged while speaking at a function in Mau after distributing cheques of unemployment allowance to unemployed youths.
"There is no evidence against Nartwar Singh," the Chief Minister, whose party has openly extended an invitation to Singh to join it, alleged.
Yadav also charged the Congress President Sonia Gandhi with ignoring Uttar Pradesh.
The Chief Minister claimed that he had written several letters to former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and also to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking help for paying unemployment allowance to youths but to no avail.
Earlier, Yadav distributed cheques to 25,000 to unemployed youths and girls under Kanyadan scheme at a function.
Speaking on the occasion he listed the achievements of his government and also sought the support of the people.
He announced that if his government was returned to power the unemployment allowance would be doubled to Rs 1,000.
