Cong suspends Natwar Singh
Former Foreign Minister Natwar Singh was on Tuesday suspended from primary membership of the Congress party.

New Delhi: Former foreign minister Natwar Singh was on Tuesday suspended from primary membership of the Congress party.

A show cause notice has been issued asking him for reasons why he should not be expelled from the party.

The party also served showcause notice asking him to explain the notice for privilege motion given by him in the Rajya Sabha against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for leakage of Pathak committee report.

The decision was taken during the Congress Disciplinary Action Committee meeting on Tuesday night.

The meeting was held to discuss action against Natwar Singh in wake of Justice R S Pathak Inquiry report on Iraqi Oil-for-Food scam.

The meeting was headed by A K Antony and attended by Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee, AICC Treasurer Motilal Vora and Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde.

The Congress will issue a whip against Natwar to prevent him from speaking against the party in Parliament.

Through Monday, Natwar kept on sending conflicting signals.

Many within the Congress saw it as a flip-flop by a politician fighting with his back to the wall.

One reason for that is that the Pathak panel report. Tabled in Parliament, the report has caught Natwar on the backfoot.

In the letters reproduced in the Pathak Panel report Natwar admits he alongwith Andaleeb Sehgal was there for the meetings with the Iraqi oil minister.

Till now he has maintained that he only wrote letters of introduction and was not present for the meetings.
