BJP Workers Block Trains, Shut Down Markets In Berhampore During Bengal Bandh
On Tuesday, a student organization called the West Bengal Student Society called for a march to Nabanna.

To ensure the success of the Bengal bandh announced by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), workers and supporters of the political party actively took to the streets of Berhampore early on Wednesday morning. From as early as 6 AM, BJP leaders and workers, carrying their party flags, were seen moving through various parts of the town. They visited different markets, railway stations, bus stands, and other significant areas such as the Swarnamoyee Market. Their mission was to appeal to shopkeepers and market vendors to close their establishments in support of the bandh. The workers were determined to make the bandh impactful and visible, reflecting the party’s strong stance against the current state of affairs in West Bengal.

In a significant move, BJP workers stopped the Bhagirathi Express at Murshidabad Station, which runs on the Lalgola-Sealdah line. This action was led by Gouri Shankar Ghosh, the MLA representing the Murshidabad Assembly constituency. The blockade lasted for over an hour, during which passengers faced considerable inconvenience. Shortly after the incident at Murshidabad Station, another group of BJP workers blocked the Sealdah-Lalgola MEMU train at Berhampore Court Station. The protest at this station continued for about an hour, during which the train was unable to move, causing delays and frustration among passengers.

BJP MLA Gouri Shankar Ghosh stated, “This bandh has been called by the BJP in the state. That is why we blocked the railway. Currently, there is a state of anarchy in the government. The police have deliberately attacked the student community. We are observing this bandh to protest the attacks on students, including the RG Kar incident.” On Tuesday, a student organization called the West Bengal Student Society called for a march to Nabanna. However, the police declared this march “illegal.” Various areas in Howrah and Kolkata took on a battlefield-like appearance due to the march. In response to alleged police brutality, the BJP called for a 12-hour Bengal bandh on Tuesday, scheduled from 6 AM to 6 PM on Wednesday.
