New Delhi: Slowly and steadily, the Hindi film industry has started producing films that are not only technically good but are well researched too. Last 2-3 years have given impetus to the idea of presenting films as a document chronicling history. Filmmakers such as Anurag Kashyap and Tigmanshu Dhulia have always used news clippings or sound bytes to describe the era of the story, and now other filmmakers are also understanding the importance of providing the background.
Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's much awaited film 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag', starring Farhan Akhtar and Sonam Kapoor, is soon going to hit the screens and if it focuses on some aspects then it can emerge as one of the relevant films of modern times.
Documentary on partition: As we know that many of Milkha Singh's family were killed during the Indo-Pak partition in 1947. This won't be the first film to cover the pain of migration but apart from 2-3 films, we have hardly seen authentic films based on partition. Let's hope 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' records everything in a believable manner.
Changing social patterns: Urban India has achieved good growth in recent years but during the process, the young generation has lost its connection with the older generation who have seen India walking through historical milestones. The life and times of Milkha Singh will introduce the youth to the customs and traditions that prevailed in India during its initial independent years.
Sports other than cricket: Bollywood and cricket are said to be the two lifelines of common Indians, and there collaboration has always been appreciated in the past, but it also pushes other sports into darkness. Films like 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' can bring forth the importance of athletics.
Iconic figure: As individuals, many of the viewers look up to screen heroes for inspiration. Motivation is something that we need all the time in this competitive world. In such a scenario, a well crafted biopic can energise the people to go for their sought after goals.
Folk culture: A film can't be imagined in seclusion as music is an integral part of it. Because of the fact that 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' is going to cover a long time span, the background score is required to be in sync with the original story. If it happens then we are going to witness a lot of tunes that are on the verge of extinction now.####
