Ahead of Narendra Modi, Sonia Gandhi's visit to Naxal-infested Bastar for election campaigning on Thursday, IEDs have been recovered on Dornapal-Chintalnar-Jagargunda route, claimed CRPF and Chhattisgarh police.
Modi is scheduled to address two public meetings in Bastar-Jagdalpur (12.40 pm) and at Kanker (2.35 pm), besides one at Rajnandgaon (Dongargarh at 4.15 pm), while Sonia Gandhi, would address the public at Kondagaon (Bastar).
Security has been heightened across the state, particularly in Bastar, ahead of the visit by these VIPs, Director General of Police Ramniwas told PTI in Raipur on Wednesday.
"Several IED steel pots with 25 litres capacity each were recovered. The bomb squad has destroyed the bombs and there have been no reports of any casualties," said security officials.
A few days ago, Maoist chief Ganpathy was spotted in Abujmad which has left a hint that ultras may have spread in and around the poll-bound regions to strike as an opportunity comes their way. Earlier, MHA had already issued a high alert of Naxal attack between 8 to 10 November.
Amidst reports that Maoists may attack leaders in the Bastar region, security forces have been told to keep a hawk's eye on every suspicious movement, the DGP said.
