HYDERABAD: Many automobile showrooms in the city are facing the threat of losing permission to access the transport department website for various services, for not renewing their licences. Several customers therefore, might end up not getting registration numbers after purchasing a new vehicle.Transport department officials said all the showrooms in the state are supposed to get their licences renewed every year at the concerned RTO office. But several showrooms across the state have not renewed their licence despite notices being served, said the officials.“We have decided to suspend access to our website for showrooms who have not renewed their registration. The whole licencing issue of showrooms has been in an unorganised state but now we are planning to streamline it,” transport commissioner L Premachandra Reddy said.In the online system, every showroom has an user ID, password and e-payment facility so that concerned authorities can directly access the website and generate a temporary registration certificate for a new vehicle bought from their showroom. “But with several showrooms not bothered to renew their licences, a decision was taken to stall access to the website so that no erring showroom can virtually sell their automobiles,” an official said. The department had given time till May 18 for showrooms to renew their licences and public notice given on website, “Last opportunity given for existing automobile dealers to renew their authorizations at the respective RTO offices before 18-05-2011, failing which dealer IDs will be blocked at central server without any further notice.”
