Four children were among 13 people killed as a tractor-trolley carrying wedding guests overturned near Piplodi in Rajgarh district of Madhya Pradesh. The incident took place late on Sunday (June 2) when the procession from Motipura village in neighbouring Rajasthan was on its way to Kulampur village in the district, officials said.

According to the district administration, a total of 15 persons were injured in the accident and all are undergoing treatment at a district hospital. Two of these patients, however, were rushed to Hamidia Hospital in Bhopal for advanced care due to wounds to the head and chest, Rajgarh collector Harsh Dikshit told PTI over phone.

“The toll is unlikely to go up since the two severely injured persons are out of danger,” he said.

District officials said the loaded vehicle overturned, crushing the passengers under its weight. People trapped under were pulled out with the help of JCB machines. Eyewitnesses said they heard screams at night and reached the spot. They started helping the accident victims, while the medical and emergency services as well as the police were also informed.

Officials further said the tractor-trolley was carrying 20 to 25 wedding guests, but the vehicle went out of the driver’s control in a dark patch on the road. An injured victim said the driver was drunk. Local residents informed the Piplodi post about the accident and, on receiving information, the police and health department teams rushed to the spot, they said. They added that the health department sent more than five ambulances to the spot, which carried the victims to the hospital where doctors declared 13 people dead.

Dixit along with superintendent of police Aditya Mishra, sub-divisional magistrate Gulab Singh Baghel and senior officers of the district were also at the accident site.
