HYDERABAD: It was a bubble waiting to burst. And burst it did, or better put fizzled out would be more apt. The 200-odd strong crowd which turned up on Tuesday for the IAC-Hyd backed anti-corruption campaign, was reduced to double digit figures Wednesday morning.Only an estimated 30-50 volunteers turned up for the campaign at the Dharna Chowk here, with barely any women or teenagers or employees present in the motley crowd. And as Anna hazare decided to end his fast towards evening, the curtains were drawn on the IAC-Hyd backed campaign as well. The much-anticipated Jail Bharo campaign was also quickly withdrawn in the evening as Anna announced his intention not to go ahead with the same.Deepak Rao of IAC-Hyd said that Anna’s health was most important and so it was in the movement’s best interests that Annaji withdrew from the same. Earlier in the day though, almost 50 people, apart from the 100-odd IAC-Hyd volunteers, had registered for the Jail Bharo movement at the Dharna Chowk, which was scheduled to begin from Dec 30th in front of the houses of MPs in the city. But now with the change of plans, Hyderabadi jail inmates’ hopes of rubbing shoulders with Gandhi-capped young activists on New Year’s eve remains a dream for another day.
